Role of the Government and Society
The Government of India is coming with many schemes in favour of the girl’s education like no educational fees , free uniform and textbook for girl children of economically weak families, yet there are many challenges incurred in girl’s education, such as they cannot afford travelling costs if school is not nearby. If the nearest primary school might be 2 to 3 hours long walk away and if means of transport is not available they may feel tired and avoiding school as household work and taking care of younger siblings is additional responsibility for them.
Girls may face dangers or violence on the long way to school, especially in rural areas. Due to gender imbalance, male teacher, peers and others, are more violent over female of any age group, leading to sexual harassment. Poverty is another issue which gives first preference to the boy as that of the girl child when there are more than two school going children. Early marriage and pregnancy is also a serious issue that creates barriers in girl education. Irrespective of their capabilities there is a break in their education and career.
To overcome these challenges, boys need to be literate about gender equality and women’s respect so that the father/brother/peer will support her education. Personal safety will not be the issue then. There will be a work balance even for household work and the expectations from both boys and girls will be equal.

Along with traditional education, financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills should be part of the education. Girls and women should be made aware of the financial resources and different Government financial schemes available for them. They should become financially self dependent to have self confidence and to enjoy life. They should be involved in the decision making from their childhood. It should be a rule that houses should be registered in the name of women only. Adoption of 100 percent gender equality is the best solution.
